Sweaty palms, increased heart beats and butterflies in your tummy – the beginnings of a love affair or the heart burn induced from yesterday’s lunch? Has your first brush with a restaurant sometimes been the last?
As merry meat eating Muslims, my better half and I try and eat halal wherever possible. The search for the killer kebabs, succulent kormas and juicy burgers lead us to seek halal restaurants in the Bay Area. So having happily discovered Zabibhah.com, we’ve ventured into many a hole-in-the-wall to high décor places, sampled and suffered heartburn and discovered a few gems along the way.
We also grew tired of ‘reviews’ where the good Muslims debate the dollar to dolmah ratio (and dollar always wins regardless of taste), and go on and on about the liquor policies (here’s an idea-how about you don’t drink). Those who have been on Zabihah, know that of which I speak.
Be warned we actually eat in places that serve alcohol, may not have been swept in ages and where the ratio of curry to currency may be a little on the high side. These posts are part reflections, part recommendations, reveries and if you are lucky a review!
Whether it is the best baklava this side of Beirut or pasanda beef that beats your grandmother’s (sorry!), the better half (he pays for these expeditions) and I shall dine and divulge all!
I stumbled upon your website through Zabihah.com. I love your style of writing, I find it highly entertaining! And much like you, my husband and I also scour various neighborhoods, towns and States in our quest to find halal restaurants. I’m an avid Yelper as I am with Zabihah and I have my own cooking website which I’ll hope you’ll take the trouble to check out. http://www.deshigrub.com
I think we have a lot in common – I’m new to the Bay Area and think I’d like to reach out to you. Who knows, perhaps we could be friends?!
Keep up the good work!!
